The carport alternative that can go right up to your postbox
Protect your car, caravan, or boat with a ShadePort that can go right to the edge of your property – not 2-3 metres back like traditional carports.

Shade Where Carports Can’t. All Year Round.
Minimal council kick-backs
Most councils won’t approve a solid roof carport within 2-3 metres of your property's boundary. ShadePorts are water-permeable, so that means they can usually be placed right up to the edge of your property.
No winter pack-up
Shade sails should come down in winter or during high winds. ShadePorts’ strong aluminium frames and engineered structure can withstand wild weather, so they can stay up all year round.
Why opt for a ShadePort
Looks great. Works better.
A contemporary curved design that softens harsh lines, repels rain, and extends the life of your shade sail.
Cost effective
Generally around half the cost of a Colourbond carport, we use durable, strong materials that will protect your vehicle for years.
Ultimate sun protection
Our fabric offers up to 99% UV protection and 97% shade, helping protect your vehicles, caravans, or boats from sun damage.
Rust-resistant frame
Our frames are made with aluminium, instead of the usual steel of carports, to prevent rusting due to sprinkler, rain, or ocean mist.
Water repellent dome
Due to the dome shape and fabric used, a ShadePort repels most heavy rain while only allowing a thin mist to come through.
Customisations
Match your ShadePort to your property
We get that not everyone likes standard black or everything square, that’s why our ShadePorts can be customised to match your space.
Size and shape
We’ll measure the area you want covered and the height you need, and order a custom-size ShadePort to meet your needs.
Colour choices
Our frames are available in every Colorbond® colour. Paired with 24 different fabric choices, we can seamlessly blend your ShadePort with your home.
Attached or freestanding
We can either bolt your ShadePort to a current structure or concrete it into the ground to stand on its own - whichever better suits your space.
Variety of uses
A ShadePort’s purpose is to provide shade and sun protection. Whether for your car, caravan, boat, pool, or play area, we’ve got you covered.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Here are some of the common questions we get. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to reach out and ask.
What is the wind rating on a ShadePort?
Our ShadePorts have an N2 wind rating. This means it can withstand constant wind speeds of 86km/hr with gusts up to 144km/hr. For context, the average wind speed during a Perth storm is 63km/hr with gusts around 90km/hr.
Is the ShadePort waterproof?
No, the canopy is made from commercial grade shade sail and its primary function is UV and sun protection. However, during heavy rain, the design repels most of the water, allowing only a fine spray to penetrate. This helps with getting the kids or the groceries out of the car without getting drenched.
How is a ShadePort fixed to the ground?
When installed to be free-standing, we dig 600mm deep, as per engineering regulations, and then use concrete to securely set the frames in place for long-term stability and strength. If your space doesn’t allow for that, we can also fix it to another structure on your property.
Why can I install a ShadePort but not a carport?
Many local councils require carports to be set back 2–3 metres from the front boundary, which means there isn't enough room for a carport on smaller properties. However, because ShadePorts are made from water-permeable fabric, they’re often allowed to be built much closer to the boundary. That means homeowners who can’t get approval for a carport can often install a ShadePort instead. Also, with new regulations, most shires limit the amount of solid roof on your property. Being classified as a shade sail, a ShadePort bypasses this regulation.
How much does a ShadePort cost compared to a carport?
ShadePorts generally cost about half as much as traditional carports, while still offering excellent protection and a sleek look.
How long does installation take?
Installation usually takes 2 days with minimal disruption to your home or driveway.
How long will my ShadePort last?
Our ShadePorts are guaranteed for 10 years but typically have a lifespan of 15 years. An endurance test done by Rainbow Shades found that after 15 years, the fabric still had just under 80% of its original strength and was still blocking 95.1% of UV rays.
